The Royal Ordinance Depot was built in the early 1800s to store ammunition, weapons and equipment for the use of the British Army.
The Depot serviced every major conflict from the Napoleonic wars to the end of the National service. The site was decommissioned by the Army in the late 1960s.The Depot is now in private ownership and houses workshops and offices.
If you would like to know more about the site, The Depot Visitor centre is an interesting museum in the Gate House at the Depot displaying a full history of the site. Tours for groups can be arranged with the very knowledgeable volunteers.
